Du Mu (杜牧, 803-852), born in what is now called Xi’an (Shaanxi Province), was a famous poet and official from China’s Tang Dynasty. When he was young, he was fond of reading military books and had annotated thirteen chapters of “Sun Tzu’s Art of War” (孙子兵法). His expertise in quatrains earned him the nickname of Xiao Du (小杜) – you should know that Du Fu (杜甫) refers to the Chinese poet Du Fu. Some of Du Mu’s works are: A Mooring On The Qin Huai River (泊秦淮, Po Qin Huai), Spring in Jiangnan (江南春, Jiangnan Chun), Red Cliff (赤壁, Chi Bi), and Inscription of Wujiang Pavilion (题乌江亭, Ti Wujiang Ting).
